Detailed description
This species is truly unmissable – its bell, dotted with white spots, resembles a starry night sky folded into a translucent aquatic dome. The Spotted Jellyfish does not seek subtlety. Unlike delicate, nearly invisible species, it stands proudly with a visual presence that is both bold and noble. Its body feels more grounded, more substantial, as if shaped by nature not to hide, but to be seen. And yet, despite its size and form, it still moves with graceful dignity and flowing rhythm, never feeling heavy or abrupt.
Its underwater dance is slower, but carries a quiet intensity – like a ritual, not a performance. Each motion of its richly shaped arms feels deliberate, as if the medusa knew it was being watched and responded not with flamboyance, but calm assurance.
Native to the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific, especially regions near northern Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, this jellyfish thrives in nutrient-rich lagoons and shallow bays where sunlight and water movement remain stable. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular in private aquariums, not just for its appearance, but for the grounding, almost architectural balance it brings to the tank.
In captivity, it acts as a dominant solitaire – a focal point that captures the eye without overwhelming its surroundings. Whether alone or accompanied by more ethereal species, the Spotted Jellyfish remains a symbol of strength in stillness, of calm authority in motion. It’s the kind of jellyfish that doesn’t just decorate the water – it gives the entire aquarium depth and direction.

Australian Spotted Lagoon
size guide
The bell of this species grows to a size of 6 to 10 cm (approx. 2.4–3.9 inches), while its tentacles typically reach lengths between 5 and 7 cm (approx. 2–2.8 inches). Thanks to its robust build, the jellyfish appears strong in the water column, yet moves gracefully – like a living sculpture with its own rhythm.
We always ship young specimens. As they grow, they become not only more spatially dominant but also richer in visual detail and contrast.

Lifespan guide
Under stable conditions, the Australian Spotted Lagoon can live for up to 24 months, making it one of the most long-lived species in the Ocean’s Clouds collection. Its growth is smooth and gradual – from a compact juvenile to a fully developed jellyfish with rich details and a signature motion.
Longevity is supported by balanced conditions, high-quality flow, and a calm rhythm that makes its development feel like part of an evolving underwater scene.
Caring for
Australian Spotted Lagoon
This species is visually striking but more demanding to care for – suitable for aquarists who already have some experience with jellyfish. It thrives best in temperatures of 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) and salinity between 30–32 ppt, always in a dedicated tank without other species.
It is completely non-stinging, but it requires a calm environment with well-balanced flow. For feeding, we recommend Marine Jellyfish Food or baby brine shrimps, 3–4× per week. On the difficulty scale, it ranks 4 out of 5 – ideal for aquarists seeking a visually dominant species with character.

At Ocean’s Clouds, we believe that beauty should flow hand in hand with responsibility. That’s why every jellyfish we offer is bred in a carefully controlled environment — never taken from the wild. Raised under optimal conditions, they grow without stress, mirroring the calm they later bring into your home.
Our aquariums are designed to echo the natural rhythm of the sea. With no sharp edges and a continuous circular flow, they create the ideal habitat for jellyfish to drift, pulse, and glow — just as they would in open waters. It’s a living sculpture that adds silence, softness, and balance to any space.
This is not just about keeping jellyfish. It’s about creating a daily ritual of calm, a connection to the ocean, and a space where science, design, and nature meet. What you see is effortless beauty. What lies beneath is precision, ethics, and years of marine expertise.
