Detailed description
Egg Jellyfish (Phacellophora camtschatica), also known as Talířovka Kamčatská or Fried Egg Jellyfish, is a fascinating jellyfish with a unique appearance resembling a broken egg – the yellow center of the bell evokes the egg yolk, while the white outer rim resembles the egg white. Its slow and rhythmic movement brings harmony and visual elegance to the aquarium, easily capturing attention.
The Fried Egg Jellyfish is found in temperate oceans worldwide, ranging from Alaska to Southern California in the Pacific Ocean, and is also present in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. This species prefers cold watersand is known for its ability to adapt to various environmental conditions.
Egg Jellyfish is a solitary species that prefers open-water habitats and feeds on zooplankton using its delicate tentacles. In the wild, its bell often hosts symbiotic organisms, such as small crabs and amphipods, which use the jellyfish as a natural shelter. Despite its impressive size, its sting is harmless to humans.
This species combines beauty, elegance, and fascinating behavior, making it a striking addition to the Ocean’s Clouds collection, ideal for those who want to add a jellyfish with a unique appearance and serene presence to their aquarium.

Egg
size guide
In an aquarium, Egg Jellyfish grows to a bell diameter of 5–8 cm (1.97–3.15 in) and tentacle length of around 8 cm (3.15 in). Although smaller than in the wild, its distinctive shape and contrasting colors make it visually striking and elegant.
To ensure optimal condition and growth, we recommend placing the Egg Jellyfish in medium to large aquariumsfrom the Ocean’s Clouds collection, where it has enough space for free and fluid movement.
Egg
Lifespan guide
With proper care, Egg Jellyfish can live up to 2 years. Its lifespan depends primarily on stable water temperature, appropriate salinity, regular feeding with live baby brine shrimps or plankton, and a calm environment with gentle yet sufficiently strong currents.
A unique way to distinguish the different life stages of the Egg Jellyfish is by observing the number of small tentacles. Young jellyfish have fewer tentacles, while adults can be recognized by their denser and longer tentacle arrangement, resembling tiny fingers around the bell.
With these conditions and consistent care, the Egg Jellyfish maintains its elegant appearance and harmonious movement, making it a fascinating and visually captivating addition to the Ocean’s Clouds collection.
Caring for
Egg
Egg Jellyfish is a solitary species that is more suitable for experienced keepers, as its care difficulty is 4/5. Although it appears delicate, it is resilient and adaptable when provided with a stable and clean environment. The jellyfish thrives in water temperatures of 20–27 °C (68–81 °F) and a salinity of 30–32 ppt, where gentle but sufficiently strong currents allow the Egg Jellyfish to float freely and move gracefully throughout the tank. This species is dependent on water flow, as it does not have much swimming strength on its own – if you ever find it pulsing at the bottom of the aquarium, the current should be increased to help it swim again.
For its well-being, it is important to feed it regularly with live baby brine shrimps or plankton, ideally 3–4 times per week, to maintain its elegant appearance and harmonious movement. While its tentacles contain stinging cells, they are harmless to humans and primarily serve to capture prey and provide shelter for small symbiotic organisms that inhabit the jellyfish.

At Ocean’s Clouds, we believe that beauty should flow hand in hand with responsibility. That’s why every jellyfish we offer is bred in a carefully controlled environment — never taken from the wild. Raised under optimal conditions, they grow without stress, mirroring the calm they later bring into your home.
Our aquariums are designed to echo the natural rhythm of the sea. With no sharp edges and a continuous circular flow, they create the ideal habitat for jellyfish to drift, pulse, and glow — just as they would in open waters. It’s a living sculpture that adds silence, softness, and balance to any space.
This is not just about keeping jellyfish. It’s about creating a daily ritual of calm, a connection to the ocean, and a space where science, design, and nature meet. What you see is effortless beauty. What lies beneath is precision, ethics, and years of marine expertise.
