Detailed description
Lactoides is a delicate, completely transparent jellyfish that looks more like an optical illusion than a living organism. Its body resembles pure glass—almost invisible, yet perfectly sculpted. Its thin, bell-shaped form captures light with unexpected precision, transforming it into shimmering waves that glide through the water with extraordinary lightness. It creates the illusion that the water itself is breathing.
This species originates from calm tropical lagoons, where currents are minimal and the water remains crystal clear. It is this serene environment that shaped Lactoides into one of the most fragile and graceful jellyfish known. Rather than standing out in its surroundings, it becomes the rhythm of the water. Watching it over time feels like witnessing the very breath of the ocean.
Unlike more visually dominant species, it doesn’t disrupt its environment, but seamlessly blends into it. It gently follows the contours of the current and responds only to the subtlest stimuli. Its movement is almost meditative—consistent, quiet, and calming. Visually, it doesn’t demand attention for itself, but instead draws focus to the entire space, bringing a sense of unity and stillness.
It is also the least demanding species to care for, making it perfect for beginner aquarists and those taking their first step into the mesmerizing world of jellyfish. Lactoides requires no complex feeding schedule, responds calmly to changes in its environment, and thanks to its size and peaceful nature, poses no threat to other species. Its natural simplicity and visual purity make it a living embodiment of aquarium harmony.
Whether placed in a minimalist interior or a warm domestic space, Lactoides has the power to bring the quietude of a tropical coastline into everyday life—gently, silently, and with a kind of elegance that can’t be ignored.

Lactoides
size guide
Adult Lactoides jellyfish reach a diameter of approximately 5–6 cm (2.0–2.4 inches) while maintaining a gentle, transparent appearance and graceful motion. To ensure the longest possible lifespan, we always ship young specimens. Over time, the jellyfish grow naturally, but their shape and movement remain elegant and subtle. Lactoides can be confidently kept even in the smallest tanks from the Ocean’s Clouds collection, making it a universal and accessible species for any keeper.
Lactoides
Lifespan guide
With proper care, Lactoides can live for 12 to 18 months, and in some cases even longer. Lifespan primarily depends on water quality, stable temperature, appropriate feeding, and a calm environment without disruptive interference.
Caring for
Lactoides
Lactoides is the perfect choice for beginners – not only due to its low maintenance needs but also because it does not sting. It is completely safe for children. The jellyfish thrive best at room temperatures between 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) and in water with salinity around 30–32 ppt. Key factors are gentle, laminar flow and a clean, stable environment without fluctuations, allowing them to float freely and gracefully.
For feeding, we recommend Marine Jellyfish Food or baby brine shrimps – ideally 3–4× per week. Regular care and a balanced environment help Lactoides maintain its translucent beauty and harmonious motion for a long time.
Important note: this species should not be kept with other jellyfish species to ensure its health and longevity.

At Ocean’s Clouds, we believe that beauty should flow hand in hand with responsibility. That’s why every jellyfish we offer is bred in a carefully controlled environment — never taken from the wild. Raised under optimal conditions, they grow without stress, mirroring the calm they later bring into your home.
Our aquariums are designed to echo the natural rhythm of the sea. With no sharp edges and a continuous circular flow, they create the ideal habitat for jellyfish to drift, pulse, and glow — just as they would in open waters. It’s a living sculpture that adds silence, softness, and balance to any space.
This is not just about keeping jellyfish. It’s about creating a daily ritual of calm, a connection to the ocean, and a space where science, design, and nature meet. What you see is effortless beauty. What lies beneath is precision, ethics, and years of marine expertise.
