Detailed description
The Moon Jellyfish, Aurelia aurita, is an iconic species that embodies everything that makes observing jellyfish so captivating. Its nearly transparent body, with soft white bands and a prominent four-leaf clover shape in the center of its bell, evokes the movement of moonlight under the water’s surface.
The slow rhythm of its pulsations creates a hypnotic visual experience – as if its entire motion were a gentle dance of calm. Watching Aurelia is like witnessing breath made visible – a steady pulse that draws you into a meditative state. Its presence doesn't demand attention, but gradually captures it through grace and consistency.
Aurelia aurita is naturally found in coastal waters across temperate regions worldwide – from the colder zones of the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to warmer bays and lagoons of the Mediterranean. It commonly inhabits shallow seas, calm harbors, and river estuaries, where it floats near the surface. Its adaptability makes it a perfect candidate for aquarium life – resilient, elegant, and widely available.
Thanks to its larger size, Aurelia appears more majestic and pronounced than more subtle species, yet it retains a sense of lightness and purity. In the aquarium, it becomes a dominant yet elegant feature – a solitary visual in the open water, reflecting both structure and softness.
Its aesthetic presence and still gentle movement make it a favorite for both first-time keepers and lovers of visually striking jellyfish. Whether placed in a home, office, or gallery space, it turns any aquarium into a serene focal point – quiet, glowing, and alive.

Moon
size guide
This species is known for its remarkable growth – the bell and tentacles can reach a length of 2 to 6 inches (5 to 15 cm), depending on age and aquarium conditions. Despite its size, the jellyfish maintains a regular shape and graceful movement at all stages.
We always ship jellyfish in an early developmental stage, to ensure the longest possible lifespan in a home environment. This also allows you to observe their natural growth and transformation into a fully mature form.
Moon
Lifespan guide
With proper care, Aurelia aurita can live for up to 2.5 years – making it one of the longest-living species in your collection.
Its lifespan is strongly influenced by its environment: calm flow, stable and clean water, and regular feeding are key to maintaining its vitality. The jellyfish are shipped in their early stage of growth, which allows you to observe the entire lifecycle right in your aquarium – from a transparent juvenile to a fully developed jellyfish.
Caring for
Moon
The care for this species is surprisingly undemanding, which makes it an ideal choice even for less experienced keepers. Moon jellyfish do not sting, so they are completely safe for close observation and regular handling.
They thrive in water temperatures between 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) and salinity of 30–32 ppt, with stability and cleanliness being key. Gentle laminar flow is recommended to support natural movement and healthy growth. For feeding, we recommend Marine Jellyfish Food or baby brine shrimps - 3 to 4 times per week.
Due to its sensitivity, this species should not be combined with other jellyfish species, to ensure its health and longevity.

At Ocean’s Clouds, we believe that beauty should flow hand in hand with responsibility. That’s why every jellyfish we offer is bred in a carefully controlled environment — never taken from the wild. Raised under optimal conditions, they grow without stress, mirroring the calm they later bring into your home.
Our aquariums are designed to echo the natural rhythm of the sea. With no sharp edges and a continuous circular flow, they create the ideal habitat for jellyfish to drift, pulse, and glow — just as they would in open waters. It’s a living sculpture that adds silence, softness, and balance to any space.
This is not just about keeping jellyfish. It’s about creating a daily ritual of calm, a connection to the ocean, and a space where science, design, and nature meet. What you see is effortless beauty. What lies beneath is precision, ethics, and years of marine expertise.
