Detailed description
Pulmo Jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo), also known as the barrel jellyfish, is one of the largest and most striking species found in European waters. In the wild, it occurs mainly in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, where it is easily recognizable by its robust bell and dense oral arms.
In an aquarium, this species appears massive and stable. Unlike more delicate jellyfish, Pulmo has a firmer body structure and moves slowly and regularly, creating a soothing rhythm in the tank. Its milky bell with hints of blue-purple edging adds a subtle yet impressive visual appeal.
It is especially attractive to aquarists because it becomes a dominant feature in the aquarium. With its shorter tentacles, it is less prone to mechanical damage and easier to keep in good condition. Pulmo Jellyfish is ideal for those looking to add a species that stands out from more delicate and translucent jellyfish.
When kept under proper conditions, Pulmo Jellyfish adapts well to captive life and rewards aquarists with long lifespan and steady growth.

Pulmo
size guide
An adult Pulmo Jellyfish in an aquarium reaches a bell diameter of approximately 5–8 cm, with tentacles around 10 cm long. Although smaller than individuals in the wild, its robust body structure makes it appear larger and more striking than other species.
To ensure the longest possible lifespan, we always ship young, healthy specimens, which gradually adapt to the aquarium and grow naturally. Due to its substantial appearance, Pulmo Jellyfish is recommended for medium to large aquariums from the Ocean’s Clouds collection, where it has enough space for smooth and natural movement.
Pulmo
Lifespan guide
With proper care, Pulmo Jellyfish can live up to 2 years. Its lifespan depends primarily on a stable water temperature (20–27 °C), appropriate salinity (30–32 ppt), regular feeding with live baby brine shrimps or plankton, and a calm environment with gentle water flow free from disturbances.
Caring for
Pulmo
Pulmo Jellyfish is a low-maintenance species suitable even for beginners, although it has a mild sting, so care should be taken when handling. Pulmo thrives at a room temperature of 20–27 °C (68–81 °F) and in water with a salinity of around 30–32 ppt. For its comfort, it is essential to provide gentle, steady water flow and a stable, clean environment, allowing it to float freely and move gracefully throughout the aquarium.
For feeding, we recommend live baby brine shrimps or plankton, ideally 3–4 times per week. Regular care and a balanced environment ensure that Pulmo maintains its elegant, translucent appearance and harmonious movementfor a long time.

At Ocean’s Clouds, we believe that beauty should flow hand in hand with responsibility. That’s why every jellyfish we offer is bred in a carefully controlled environment — never taken from the wild. Raised under optimal conditions, they grow without stress, mirroring the calm they later bring into your home.
Our aquariums are designed to echo the natural rhythm of the sea. With no sharp edges and a continuous circular flow, they create the ideal habitat for jellyfish to drift, pulse, and glow — just as they would in open waters. It’s a living sculpture that adds silence, softness, and balance to any space.
This is not just about keeping jellyfish. It’s about creating a daily ritual of calm, a connection to the ocean, and a space where science, design, and nature meet. What you see is effortless beauty. What lies beneath is precision, ethics, and years of marine expertise.
